StillFree Support
StillFree is a small iPhone app that tracks the free trials you have signed up for and reminds you before each one turns into a charge. If something isn’t working, start here — and if the answer isn’t below, just email us.

A person reads and answers every message, usually within two working days. There is no form to fill in and no chatbot to get past.
It helps if you mention your iOS version and the StillFree version shown in Settings → About → Version.
Trials
How do I add a trial?
Tap Add Trial on the main screen. Enter the service name and the date the free period ends — those two are all that is required.
You can also add the price that starts after the trial, its currency and billing period, a start date, a link to where the trial is managed, and a note. StillFree leaves the price blank rather than guessing: an unknown price is genuinely different from a price of zero.
Tap Add Trial to save. Reminders are scheduled straight away.
How do I edit a trial?
Tap the trial on the main screen to open it, then choose Edit from the … menu at the top right. Change what you need and save.
If you change the end date or the reminder days, StillFree rebuilds that trial’s reminders from scratch, so an old reminder can never survive an edit.
How do I delete a trial?
Open the trial, tap the … menu at the top right, choose Delete, and confirm.
Deleting removes the record from your iPhone and cancels every reminder scheduled for it, including any notification already sitting in Notification Centre. It cannot be undone, so if you only want to stop the reminders and keep the record, mark the trial as cancelled or kept instead — both move it to History.
How do I mark a trial as cancelled?
Open the trial and tap Mark cancelled. It moves to History, dated today, and stops reminding you.
If you used Manage Trial to open a cancellation page, StillFree asks whether you cancelled when you come back, and marking it there does the same thing. StillFree cannot see what happened on another company’s website, so it asks rather than assumes.
Changed your mind, or tapped it too early? Open the trial from History and tap Move back to active.
How do I mark a subscription I decided to keep?
Open the trial and tap Keep it. StillFree records that you chose to keep this one, moves it to History, and stops tracking it — no reminders, and no nagging about a decision you already made deliberately.
It stays in History as a record of what you decided and when, until you delete it.
What do the statuses mean?
- Still free — the trial is running and StillFree is watching the date.
- Cancelled — you told StillFree you cancelled it.
- Subscribed — you decided to keep paying for it. History lists it as Kept, with the date you decided.
- Ended — the end date passed while the trial was still active. StillFree does not know whether you were charged; it only knows the date went by.
Reminders and notifications
I’m not getting any reminders
Work through these in order:
- Open StillFree’s Settings. The Notifications card at the top tells you the truth about the current state. If it says Allowed, it also shows how many reminders are actually scheduled.
- If it reads None yet, nothing is pending. The usual reasons: every trial is archived, or every reminder date is already in the past. StillFree never schedules a reminder for a moment that has gone.
- Check the trial itself. If no reminder days are selected, StillFree tells you plainly that it will not remind you about it.
- Check the reminder time in Settings → Reminder time. A reminder set for a time that has already passed today will not fire until the next scheduled day.
- Check iOS: Settings → Focus, and Scheduled Summary in Settings → Notifications, can both hold notifications back or delay them.
StillFree says reminders are turned off
Notification permission was declined. iOS only allows an app to ask once, so StillFree cannot ask again — you have to grant it in iOS Settings.
Tap Open iPhone Settings in StillFree’s Settings, then turn on Allow Notifications. Or go there yourself: Settings → Notifications → StillFree.
Return to StillFree afterwards. It re-checks the permission and schedules every reminder that is still in the future, so nothing is lost by having said no the first time.
When is StillFree allowed to ask for notification permission?
When you save your first trial — the moment you have actually asked to be reminded of something — or whenever you tap Turn on reminders yourself in StillFree’s Settings. It never asks on launch, and iOS allows the question only once: decline it and that button becomes a link into iPhone Settings instead.
Can I change when reminders arrive?
Yes, in two places.
Which days: each trial has its own reminder days — seven days out, three days out, the day before, and the final day. The default for new trials is three days, one day, and the final day, and you can change that default in Settings → Default reminders.
What time: Settings → Reminder time sets the time of day for all reminders. It defaults to 9:00, which leaves enough of the day to act. Changing it reschedules everything immediately.
A reminder arrived for a trial I already cancelled
That means the trial is still marked active in StillFree. Because StillFree cannot see other companies’ accounts, cancelling on their website does not tell StillFree anything.
Open the trial and tap Mark cancelled. Its remaining reminders are cancelled the moment you do.
Screenshot import
Why does StillFree ask for the camera?
Only to photograph an offer you want imported. StillFree asks the first time you choose Take a photo, and never otherwise — decline it and every other part of the app carries on working.
A photo taken this way is read on your iPhone and then discarded. It is not written to your photo library, not attached to the saved trial, and not sent anywhere. You can withdraw access at any time in iPhone Settings.
How do I import a trial from a screenshot?
Three ways:
- Share it. From any app showing the signup confirmation, tap the share button and choose StillFree. The whole import happens right there, without leaving the app you were in.
- Pick it. In StillFree, tap the small scan button beside Add Trial, choose Choose a screenshot, and pick one from your library.
- Photograph it. Same button, then Take a photo — for an offer on a laptop, a letter, or a screen that is not this phone. On a device with no camera, the button opens the library directly and offers no choice.
Whichever you use, your iPhone reads the text on the device, fills in what it found, and shows you a review screen. Nothing is saved until you tap Add Trial.
StillFree couldn’t read anything from my screenshot
You still get a working form — the import never dead-ends — and you can type the details in and save as normal.
To improve the odds next time:
- Capture the screen that states the trial terms: the end date, the length of the trial, or the price that starts afterwards.
- Use a real screenshot rather than a photo of a screen.
- Include the service name in the captured area.
- Don’t crop so tightly that the surrounding words are lost — StillFree uses nearby wording to tell a trial price from a regular one.
- Very small or very stylised text, and text in an image inside the screenshot, are harder to read.
Recognition covers English plus the languages your iPhone is set up for, where Apple’s text recognition supports them. A screenshot in an unsupported language may come back empty.
Some details were found but others are wrong or missing
That is what the review screen is for. Anything StillFree is unsure about is marked, and you can correct any field before saving.
If the screenshot contained contradictory information — a trial length and an end date that disagree, more than one plausible price, or a currency symbol that could mean several currencies — StillFree shows a notice and asks you to confirm rather than picking one silently.
The screenshot appears as a thumbnail on that screen so you can check the extracted values against the original.
Is my screenshot uploaded anywhere?
No. Text recognition runs on your iPhone using Apple’s Vision framework. Nothing about the image goes to a network, and StillFree does not save it: the image is held in memory for the review screen and discarded when you leave it. Only the values you confirm become part of a trial — and those are what syncs to your own iCloud, if you have it on. The picture never does.
StillFree also has no access to your photo library. iOS shows its own picker and hands over only the single image you chose.
Full detail is in the Privacy Policy.
StillFree doesn’t appear in the share sheet
Tap the share button, scroll the row of app icons to the end, and tap More. You can enable StillFree there and drag it up the list so it appears first next time.
StillFree only accepts images, so it will not appear when you are sharing a link, a document, or plain text.
Cancelling and managing subscriptions
Can StillFree cancel a trial for me?
No, and it does not claim to. StillFree has no connection to your bank, your card, or the companies whose trials you track. It has no way to act on your account with them.
What it does is keep the deadline, warn you in time, take you to the right place, and record what you decided. The cancelling itself is done by you, on the provider’s own website or in your App Store subscription settings.
Where does “Manage Trial” take me?
It offers whichever applies:
- the management link you saved for that trial, if you added one;
- App Store Subscriptions, which opens Apple’s own subscription page — the right route when you subscribed through an iPhone app;
- Add a manage link, to save the correct address for next time.
Opening a page does not cancel anything by itself. You still have to complete the cancellation there. When you come back, StillFree asks whether you did.
How do I cancel a subscription I bought through an app?
Those are managed by Apple, not by the app that sold them. On your iPhone open Settings, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions, choose the subscription, and tap Cancel Subscription. You can also go straight there from Apple’s subscriptions page, which is where StillFree’s App Store Subscriptions button sends you.
Subscriptions taken out directly with a company — on their website, or through another payment method — are not listed there and must be cancelled with that company.
Cancelling in Apple’s settings does not update StillFree. Mark the trial as cancelled when you get back.
Your data
Where are my trials stored? Do they sync?
On your iPhone, and — when you are signed in to iCloud — in your own iCloud account, so your trials appear on your other devices. StillFree still has no server and no account of its own: the sync runs between your devices and your private iCloud database, which we cannot read.
Signed out of iCloud, or with iCloud turned off for StillFree, everything stays on the device and the app works the same.
The app tells you which it is doing rather than asking you to take our word for it: Settings → Your data reports where your records actually are and when they last synced.
Your iPhone’s own encrypted backup may include StillFree’s data, the same as for your other apps, so restoring a backup to a new iPhone will bring your trials with it.
How do I delete my data?
Delete a single trial from its … menu, or delete the StillFree app to remove everything on the device — trials, notes, preferences, and pending reminders — in one step.
If you use iCloud sync, the copy in your iCloud account outlives deleting the app, because it belongs to your Apple Account rather than to us. Remove it in iOS Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → StillFree. Either way there is no request to send us: we hold no copy of your data to erase.
Settings says my data is “Unavailable”
That means StillFree could not open its database, and anything you add will not survive a restart. It is rare and usually points at a problem with the installation.
Restart your iPhone first. If it persists, please email support@stillfree.download before deleting the app — deleting it will also delete any trials it did manage to save.
Buying StillFree
Is there a subscription?
No. StillFree is a one-time purchase, with no subscription, no in-app purchases, no free trial of its own, and no ads. An app whose whole point is protecting you from forgotten subscriptions should not be another one.
I got a new iPhone. Do I have to buy it again?
No. Re-download StillFree from the App Store on any device signed in to the same Apple Account and it installs at no further charge. There is no restore button, because paid apps have nothing to restore — the App Store handles it. Open the App Store, tap your account picture, tap Purchased, and download it from there.
Your trials come with you if the new iPhone is signed in to the same iCloud account, because they sync through it. Without iCloud sync they are on the old device only, so the new one starts empty unless you restored it from a backup.
How do I get a refund?
Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple, not by us. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and choose StillFree.
If StillFree isn’t doing what you expected, we would genuinely like to hear why first — it is often something we can fix.
